For centuries the Eastern Isles lived only in legend. It is said that even the great Chinese emperor, Qin Shi Huang, sought the magical land but to no success. Ancient writer, Shan Hai Jing, wrote extensively of the land, namely speaking of the famed Penglai Mountain where dwelled the Flying Immortals. He wrote of the immortals and testified to their gift of flight, proclaiming their ability to soar above the grand mountains. Shan Hai Jing also spoke of the natural features of the landscape, declaring that everything that grew in the isles possessed magical properties of longevity, from the streams and waterfalls to the fruits.
Events would soon turn when an intrepid archaeologist, Thomas Hughes , found an odd map enclosed in the antiquarian, dust-laden copy of Shan Hai Jing's book. With the map as his guide, he successfully reached the isles. Upon his discovery, he was enamored with the land's primeval beauty and the wonders of flying people. He soon unearthed a series of eight scrolls that collectively became known as the Lost Scrolls of Immortality (to unlock the scrolls, visit our Teas page. Within these scrolls were formulas for special elixirs that were said to restore and extend life! It was the use of these elixirs that accounted for the extraordinary longevity and flight abilities of the isle's inhabitants. Thus was born Eastern Isles Teas and Tonics.
